In September of 2002, a small group of people gathered at Pastor Benjamin
Kim's house in Pasadena to discuss the possibility of launching a new, family-oriented
church in the San Fernando Valley area. Prior to this, Pastor Ben was serving
as an associate pastor at Valley Christian Presbyterian Church. During his
ministry at Valley Christian Presbyterian Church, Pastor Ben realized a
great need for a solid reformed church in the upper part of the San Fernando
Valley, that was lacking in the lives of many young families. Seeing this
great need both in his life and in others, Pastor Ben took necessary steps
to begin this new work.
In the fall, the California Presbytery of KAPC approved this church planting
project. Pastor Ben along with the twelve launch team members began this
great journey. In December of 2002, under the name of Covenant Community
Church, this church planting project was formalized and later joined the
North America Presbytery (NAP). Under the guidance and support of the NAP,
Covenant Community Church had the official Opening Service on March 16th,
2003. Dr. Dennis Johnson of WSC delivered a message entitled, "The
Church Heard Around The World," which marked the birth of a new
church in Christ.
Though our beginning
is small and humble, we are confident and excited to see what God has in
store for us in the future...to be continued!
